Several hundred overseas learners will successfully take up their promised university positions following talks among the UK immigration department and UCL wrapped up with the officials approving additional visas.
Hundreds of students, plenty from East Asia, found themselves in uncertainty after UCL underestimated the interest for places this year and exceeded its allowance of CAS online certificates authorized by the Home Office.
the institution offered apologies to those affected, advising them it was "extremely sorry for the disturbance and uncertainty", and giving to cover £1,000 fees for applications made through British visa authorities' "fast-track option".
We're pleased to be able to assure our concerned overseas students that they can finally begin their education at UCL.
The educational establishment said "an exceptional rise in demand" was responsible for the surplus intake, and had originally informed scholars with guaranteed spots that they should postpone until the subsequent session, causing many to express concern they encountered economic disadvantages after advance payment for travel and lodging.
After negotiations between University College London and the UK visa officials at the conclusion of last weekend, learners were informed that they would receive entry permits after all.
A university representative for the institution stated: "We deeply express regret to all those who have been impacted by the recent confusion and we are extremely thankful for their patience. Our staff are now working quickly to reach out to students individually with updates and support.
Some learners reported they had received digital communications from UCL within the last two days saying their study acceptance confirmations would be released, a key necessity to be issued a student visa. Several said they had still not obtained confirmation.
A learner expressed: "I'm thrilled to be able to learn in the United Kingdom. We were advised various pieces of information since last month, it was incredibly challenging. I was already obligated to covering costs for lodging in London, with no refund available, so I am extremely grateful."
Roughly 200 students from the Chinese mainland were concerned, with some already in the Britain at the close of the previous month for the start of the academic session. Those on taught postgraduate courses were told they needed to be present by 10 October or forfeit their spot.
We're extremely grateful for your cooperation with this situation and we are extremely sorry for the inconvenience and confusion which this will have created you.
